My Cap

By John Sparks

To my fellow Knoxville Observers:

The fact is KO is very active in the certificates earned for a club of our size.  In fact, per person, we might even lead the nation but I am not sure of that yet.  What I do know is that I carry the majority of AL Certificates for KO.  I would like to see that change and in fact CHALLENGE the KO membership to match me!  If you do, we would be indisputably, the most active club in the USA for AL awards, bar none!  I am working on certificates to be the first Master Observer in Tennessee and there are only 13 states that have at least one Master observer at this time.  The Kansas City club has 5 of them.  They have 300 members and 200 AL certificates.  They inspired the AL so much that the AL recently established Kansas City as their headquarters.  Member-for-member, we could easily top Kansas City for the most active club in the USA for AL Observing certificates.  It is up to the KO members and I have done more than my part and doing more.  If you have any questions, talk to me and I will do what I can to help you.  I think we have the best little Astronomy club in the USA and I dare you to prove me correct.  THAT is why I wear my cap:  It is the "Crown of Tennessee" and it is there to challenge you to be the best astronomer you can be.  I want you to enjoy your own universe and if you give the AL-Certificates a chance, I promise that you will have fun and be proud of what you have done.  I am no one special, just someone wanting to understand our universe.
