From Knoxville you go on Pellissippi Parkway into Oak Ridge. Continue through Oak Ridge on hwy. 62. Just a little outside Oak Ridge you will need to make a 90 degree right turn to stay on 62. Other wise you will be on 61. Don't worry there is a sign that says this way to Wartburg. Continue on till you get to Wartburg. The map above shows Wartburg to the star party site. Continue on past Wartburg and hwy 62 makes another turn. You will need to take a 90 degree left to stay on 62. There are signs that warns you. Travel down 62 just past Lancing. and then look for Ridge road. There is a sign that says Lilly Bluff this way. Turn left on Ridge road. Travel down the road a little ways and you will see a sign that says you are entering Obed Wild and Scenic River. Drive a little more and you will see a small parking lot with bathrooms and a bridge. Drive roughly half a mile and you will see a sign that says Lilly Bluff Overlook this way. Go past that .1 or .2 of a mile and you will see a clearing with 2 large wide spots on both sides of the road. That is where the star party is. Just park in a wide spot and set up your scope. The road has very little traffic so you won't be bothered much by head lights. The distance from west Knoxville is about 45 miles. The trip will take 1 hour. The Skies are great. 6.5 mag skies easy. There is great horizons. At the worst spot some trees maybe blocking about 15 degrees.
